Restaurants - Getting Started

Set up your restaurant POS system from day one. Choose your restaurant type below to follow the setup path built for your operation.

What type of restaurant are you setting up?

Your setup path depends on how your operation runs. Pick the option that fits.

💡
Not sure which applies? If your customers sit down and a server takes their order, you're full-service. If customers order at a counter or window, you're quick-service.

Full-Service Restaurant Setup

Follow these steps in order. Each one builds on the last.

ℹ️
Before you start: Make sure you have Administration and Catalog access in your Nayax account. Contact your Nayax representative if you need access confirmed.
1
Add Employee Profiles Required

Set up staff accounts before configuring anything else. Employee profiles control who can access the POS and what they can do.

2
Create Table Seating Areas Required

Define your dining floor layout -- tables, zones, and seating capacity. This is the foundation of your front-of-house operation, letting you track customer orders by table.

3
Build Your Product Catalog Required

Add your menu items manually or import them in bulk via Excel. Products must exist in your catalog before they can be ordered or printed.

4
Set Up Modifiers Required

Modifiers are customizable options for your products -- toppings, add-ons, temperature preferences, and more. Before creating modifiers, create modifier groups to organize them. For example, a "Temperature" group contains options like Medium Well, Well Done, and Rare. Use Actions to define how modifiers behave (e.g., "With" / "Add" / "No"). Use templates to apply the same modifier set across multiple products quickly.

5
Configure Printing Required

Set up multiple printers to organize orders and send them to the correct station -- kitchen, bar, or receipt. Group printers by station, then link each printer to its group. If you have multiple printers and POS units, set up a spooler: software that temporarily holds print jobs so orders don't overload a printer at once.

6
Create Cancellation Options Optional

Define the cancellation reasons your staff can select when voiding an order line. This is recommended for reporting accuracy.

7
Enable Order Ahead & Kiosk Display Optional

If you want customers to order in advance, enable the Order Ahead feature. If you're running a self-service kiosk in your restaurant, configure the kiosk display next.

⚠️
Important: Complete steps 1–5 in order before opening for service. Skipping table or printer setup will affect order routing and kitchen display accuracy.

Quick-Service Restaurant Setup

Streamlined setup for food trucks, cafes, and counter-service operations. Three steps to get you live.

1
Set Up Printed Receipts for Nova Devices Required

Configure your Nova POS device to print customer receipts correctly. This should be the first step for any counter or mobile setup.

2
Build Your Product Catalog Required

Add your menu items manually. You can also add product images to make your catalog easier to navigate on the POS screen.

3
You're ready to go! Then explore

Once your catalog is live and receipts are printing, your quick-service setup is complete. Explore the articles below to add more features as your operation grows.
