How to Configure 2 Tier Pricing

Charge a different price for cashless payments than for cash without reprogramming your machine.

Audience: Operator / Distributor

2 tier pricing lets you set one price for cash customers and a different price for customers paying by credit card or other cashless methods. The most common use case is recovering payment processing fees from card transactions, so your cash prices stay unchanged.

Nayax Core supports two methods for this. Choose the one that fits your setup.

Product Map Prices

Set a separate cash price and card price per product slot. Best for machines that display two prices natively on the screen.

Product Map configuration
Info
Most operators use Extra Charge or Commission Rate - it works on all compatible machines with no hardware reprogramming. Use Product Map prices only if your machine physically displays two prices to the customer before they pay.

Both options are in the Payment Methods section of the Payment tab at the operator and machine levels.
First, choose which type fits your surcharge:

Commission Rate

A percentage added on top of the product price. The surcharge scales with the transaction amount.

Use when: fee is percentage-based

Extra Charge

A fixed currency amount added to every transaction, regardless of the product price.

Use when: fee is a flat amount
Important
You can only use one type per payment method - Commission Rate or Extra Charge, not both simultaneously.

How to Add Payment Methods Operator Level

This applies the surcharge to all machines under the operator by default.

1
Go to Administration > Operator. Select the relevant operator under the hierarchy.
2
Click the Payment tab.
3
Under Payment Methods, locate the payment method you want to surcharge - for example, Credit Card.
4
Click the Commission Rate checkbox and enter your percentage, or enter a fixed amount in the Extra Charge field.
5
Click Save.

How to Add Payment Methods Machine Level

To push the operator-level setting across all machines immediately, use the Apply To option in the Payment Methods section after saving.

To set a different surcharge for a specific machine, go to Operations > Machines > select the machine > Payment tab, then enter the Commission Rate or Extra Charge for that machine. Machine-level settings override the operator setting for that machine only.

Example - Commission Rate

2.5% card surcharge

Product price€2.00
Commission Rate2.5%
Surcharge added€0.05
Card customer pays€2.05

Cash customer still pays €2.00.

Example - Extra Charge

€0.30 flat surcharge

Product price€1.50
Extra Charge€0.30
Surcharge added€0.30
Card customer pays€1.80

Cash customer still pays €1.50.

Use this approach if your machine hardware displays two prices on screen - one for cash, one for card - before the customer pays. This gives customers full price transparency at the point of selection.

1
Go to Operations > Machines > select the machine.
2
Click the Product Map tab.
3
For each product row, set Cash Display Price (charged for cash) and Credit Card Price (charged for cashless payments).
4
Click Save. Prices are pushed to the machine on its next sync.
Important - Pre-selection machines
If your machine uses Pre-Selection mode (the VMC sends the product price to Nayax before authorisation), the Credit Card Price in the Product Map must exactly match the price programmed in the machine's own controller. A mismatch will cause transaction failures.
Prepaid users: The Product Map also has a Prepaid Card Price column, which lets you set a third price tier specifically for Nayax Prepaid cardholders - separate from both the cash price and the credit card price.

Your situation Recommended approach
You want to add a surcharge without touching the machine programming Extra Charge or Commission Rate
Your surcharge is a percentage of the sale value Commission Rate
Your surcharge is a flat fee per transaction Extra Charge
Your machine displays two prices on screen natively Product Map prices
You need a third price tier for Prepaid cardholders Product Map — use the Prepaid Card Price column
You need a customer-facing price disclosure before payment Product Map prices (machine displays the card price at selection)
Surcharging regulations
Transparency requirements vary by country. Some markets - including the US and parts of Europe - require that the card surcharge is disclosed to the customer before they pay. Check local regulations before enabling surcharging. If your machine shows a single price regardless of payment method, customers may not see the surcharge until after they tap.
How it appears in DTM: In the Dynamic Transaction Monitor, the extra_charge field shows the surcharge applied to each individual transaction. The settlement value (seValue) is the base product price plus the extra charge combined.
Refunds include the surcharge: If a transaction is refunded, the full settled amount - including any Extra Charge or Commission Rate - is returned to the customer.
