Your starting point for configuring machine protocols on your VPOS Media device in Nayax Core. Choose the guide that matches your machine - MDB, Pulse, or Marshall - and apply a BASIC template to get started quickly.

Prerequisites

Before You Start

  • Your VPOS Media 4 or VPOS Media 4 Mini device is added as a machine in Nayax Core.
  • You have access to Operations > Machines for the machine you want to configure.
  • You know which protocol your machine uses to communicate - MDB, Pulse, or Marshall. If you are not sure, see Choose Your Protocol below.
  • If you are migrating a machine previously configured for another Nayax device, start from a blank virtual machine rather than reusing the old one, so no leftover attributes carry over.

Dedicated configuration process: VPOS Media 4 and VPOS Media 4 Mini devices have their own configuration process in Nayax Core, separate from VPOS Touch or Onyx. You must follow the correct protocol guide below to ensure your device operates correctly.

Choose Your Protocol

Select the guide that matches how your machine communicates and processes transactions. Not all protocols are available on both devices.

MDB MDB Configuration

Start with Card (Pre-Selection), Pre-Authorization, and Always Idle (Level 3) scenarios.

Step 2

How to Apply a BASIC Template

Two entry points, confirmed by screenshot: New Core provides a Machine Model dropdown (General Information panel) pre-loaded with all VPOSM BASIC models. The steps further down this section reference a Model Name text field, which may belong to Classic Core. Please confirm this distinction with PM/SME before publishing, and label each method accordingly.

Apply a Pre-Built Model (New Core)

  1.  

    Select the model from the Machine Model drop-down.

    Click Save.

  3.  

    Click Actions > Load Defaults to apply the model's configuration.

Apply a BASIC Template Tag

The process is the same for all three protocol guides.

  1.  

    In Nayax Core, go to Operations > Machines and locate the machine you want to configure.

  2.  

    Open the General tab and enter the exact BASIC template tag for your chosen protocol into the Model Name field.

  3.  

    The template auto-populates the Default Configuration tab with the essential fields. Set the value for each parameter and add any additional attributes your machine requires.

  4.  

    After configuring each attribute, select its checkbox on the left. When ready, click Actions > Update Queue to push the changes to your device.

BASIC = minimum required fields. These templates contain only the essential configuration. You must add any additional attributes your machine requires beyond this basic setup.

What is the difference between MDB, Pulse, and Marshall protocols?
MDB (Multi-Drop Bus) is a digital communication protocol used in most modern vending machines. Pulse uses brief electrical signals to trigger vending actions and suits simpler, fixed-price setups. Marshall is a protocol suited to multi-session scenarios such as EV chargers and locker rentals, where a transaction may cover a variable cost or time period.
Do I need to follow these guides if I am migrating from another Nayax device?
Yes. If you are migrating a machine previously configured for another Nayax device to a VPOS Media 4 or VPOS Media 4 Mini, you must follow the relevant protocol configuration guide. VPOS Media devices have a dedicated configuration process in Nayax Core and require the correct BASIC template to operate correctly. Start from a blank virtual machine rather than reusing the old one, so no leftover attributes from the previous device type carry over.
Can I use any protocol with any VPOS Media device?
Not all protocols are available on both devices. MDB is currently available on VPOS Media 4 only. Pulse is available on both VPOS Media 4 and VPOS Media 4 Mini. Marshall is currently available on VPOS Media 4 Mini only. Always confirm your device model before applying a template.
What does a BASIC template actually do?

How do I push my configuration to the device?
