🔀 Why & How: Auto-Create Prepaid Cards & Set Group Limitations
Learn how to enable automatic prepaid card creation in Nayax Core and pre-configure group limitations so every auto-created card inherits the right machine group access.
General
How to Auto-Create Prepaid Cards & Set Group Limitations
Instead of manually creating each prepaid card through Card Management, Nayax Core offers Auto PP Cards a feature that automatically creates a prepaid card the first time an unrecognized card is tapped at a machine. The auto-created card inherits a pre-defined configuration you set up once, including card credit attributes, group limitations, and optional reward program settings.
This article covers how to enable Auto PP Cards at both the operator and machine level, configure group limitations for auto-created cards, and optionally enable automatic card creation for the Monyx app.
|
✅ PREREQUISITES Before you begin, make sure the following are in place:
|
What Is Auto PP Cards?
Auto PP Cards eliminates the need to pre-create every prepaid card manually. When an unrecognized card (magnetic stripe, contactless, QR code) is presented to a machine, the system automatically creates a new prepaid card record in the database using the configuration you have pre-defined on the Auto PP Cards tab.
How it works:
- A cardholder taps a new, unrecognized card at a Nayax-connected machine.
- The system checks whether Auto PP Cards is enabled for that machine (or its parent operator).
- If enabled, a new prepaid card is automatically created with the pre-defined settings: card type, physical type, credit attributes, group limitations, and optionally, the operator’s reward program.
- The card is immediately usable - the cardholder can start purchasing right away (subject to any credit or group restrictions you’ve configured).
Where to Configure: Operator Level vs. Machine Level
Auto PP Cards can be configured at two levels. The operator-level configuration acts as the default and propagates to all actors and machines underneath it. Machine-level configuration lets you override the operator defaults for specific machines.

Level |
Navigation Path |
Behavior |
Guide |
|
Operator Level |
Administration > Operator > Auto PP Cards tab |
Default configuration. Propagates to all actors and machines. Use the Reset Configuration button to push changes downward. |
|
|
Machine Level |
Operations >Machines > select machine > Auto PP Cards tab |
Inherits operator defaults. Use Override Configuration to customize settings for a specific machine. Use Reset Configuration to revert to operator defaults. |
|
ℹ️ TIP Start by configuring Auto PP Cards at the operator level. Only override at the machine level when a specific machine needs different settings (e.g., a lobby kiosk that should auto-create cards with access to only one machine group). |
Part A: Enable Auto PP Cards at the Operator Level
- Navigate to Administration > Operator.
- Select the Auto PP Cards tab.
- Check the Enable Automatic Creation of Cards checkbox. This is mandatory - all other fields remain greyed out until this is checked.
- (Optional) Check Use Operator Reward Program to automatically apply the operator’s reward program to every auto-created card. See Prepaid Rewards & Loyalty Program for details.
- (Optional) Check Automatically Create For Monyx App to also create the card in the Monyx app when a user interacts with a machine via QR code.
- Fill in all mandatory card configuration fields. These mirror the fields on the Card Management page:
|
Field |
Description |
Required? |
|
Card Physical Type |
Select the physical format (e.g., Contactless Card, Swipe Card, QR Code). |
Yes |
|
Status |
Typically set to Active so the card is usable immediately. |
Yes |
|
Card Credit Attributes |
Max balance, revalue limits, expiration, usage restrictions, same fields as manual card creation. |
Yes (mandatory fields) |
|
Group/Location Limits |
Check which machine groups the auto-created card should have access to (see Part C below). |
Yes (at least one group) |
- Click Save.
|
⚠️ NOTE Saving the operator-level Auto PP Cards configuration propagates these settings to all actors and machines under the operator. If you have previously overridden settings at the machine level, those overrides remain in place until you use Reset Configuration on the individual machine. |
Part B: Override Auto PP Cards at the Machine Level
Use this when a specific machine needs different auto-creation settings than the operator default.
- Navigate to Operations > Machines.
- Select the specific machine from the hierarchy.
- Select the Auto PP Cards tab.
- Click the Override Configuration button. The fields become editable.
- Modify any fields you need to change (card attributes, group limitations, checkboxes).
- Click Save.
|
ℹ️ TIP To revert a machine back to the operator defaults, click Reset Configuration on the machine’s Auto PP Cards tab. This discards the machine-level override and re-inherits the operator configuration. |
Part C: Set Group Limitations for Auto-Created Cards
The Group/Location Limits section on the Auto PP Cards tab determines which machine groups every auto-created card will have access to. This works identically to the Group/Location Limits table on individual cards — but it applies as the template for all future auto-created cards.
- On the Auto PP Cards tab (operator or machine level), scroll to the Group/Location Limits section.
- You will see one row per active machine group. Check the groups you want auto-created cards to access.
- (Optional) Enter a daily purchase limit number next to any group to cap how many products a cardholder can buy per day from that group.
- Click Save.

Checkbox State |
Daily Limit Value |
Result for Auto-Created Card |
|
✅ Checked |
(blank) |
Card can purchase unlimited products from this group |
|
✅ Checked |
5 |
Card can purchase up to 5 products per day from this group |
|
✅ Checked |
0 |
Card credit blocked for this group; revalue credit still works |
|
❌ Unchecked |
— |
Card cannot purchase from this group at all |
|
⛔ IMPORTANT Group limitations set on the Auto PP Cards tab are a template. They apply to cards created after you save. Existing cards are not retroactively updated. To change group access on an existing card, edit it directly in Card Management. |
Worked Example
Scenario: A university campus operator has 3 machine groups: Cafeteria, Library, and Gym Lobby. They want auto-created student prepaid cards to work in the Cafeteria (max 8 purchases/day) and Library (unlimited), but not in the Gym Lobby.

❌ Unchecked |
Result: When a student taps a new contactless card at any campus machine for the first time, the system automatically creates a prepaid card with access to cafeteria machines (capped at 8 products/day) and library machines (unlimited). The Gym Lobby is blocked. The operator’s reward program is applied, and the card is also created in the Monyx app so the student can manage it from their phone.
The Three Checkboxes Explained
|
Checkbox |
When Checked |
When Unchecked |
|
Enable Automatic Creation of Cards |
Auto PP Cards is active. New unrecognized cards tapped at machines will be created automatically. All other fields become editable. |
Feature is disabled. No automatic card creation occurs. All other fields are greyed out. |
|
Use Operator Reward Program |
The operator’s reward program (revalue bonuses) is automatically applied to every auto-created card. |
Auto-created cards do not receive any reward program. You can still add rewards manually per card later. |
|
Automatically Create For Monyx App |
When a Monyx app user scans a QR code at a machine and doesn’t have this operator’s prepaid card, one is created automatically in the app. |
Monyx users must have a card created through another method (manual, import, or machine tap) before they can use it in the app. |
Propagation & Override Logic
Understanding how configuration flows from operator to machine is essential for managing Auto PP Cards at scale.
|
Action |
Effect |
|
Save at Operator Level |
Configuration propagates to all actors and machines that have NOT been overridden at the machine level. |
|
Override Configuration (machine) |
Machine disconnects from the operator default. Future operator-level changes do not affect this machine. |
|
Reset Configuration (machine) |
Machine discards its override and re-inherits the current operator-level configuration. |
|
Reset Configuration (operator) |
All actors and machines including those previously overridden are reset to the operator’s current configuration. |
|
⚠️ NOTE The operator-level Reset Configuration is a powerful action. It overwrites ALL machine-level customizations. Use it intentionally, and review machine-level overrides before resetting. |
Important Behaviors to Know
|
Behavior |
Details |
|
Card reactivation from Idle |
When a card moves from Idle to Active (inactive for 6+ months), the group limitations may need to be reconfigured. |
|
Auto PP card creation |
Cards created via Auto PP Cards inherit the group settings defined on the Auto PP tab, not the individual card-level settings of any existing card. |
|
Daily limit reset |
The daily purchase counter resets at midnight (based on the operator’s configured time zone). |
|
Revalue credit vs. card credit at limit 0 |
A daily limit of 0 blocks card credit for that group but still allows revalue credit. This distinction is important for operators who fund cards with both credit types. |
|
Inactive groups hidden |
If a machine group is deactivated, it disappears from the Group/Location Limits table. Reactivating it adds it back (unchecked). |
|
⚠️ NOTE When a card is auto-created (e.g., a new contactless card is tapped at a machine for the first time), it inherits the group configuration from the Auto PP Cards settings. You can still adjust group limitations on the individual card afterwards via Card Management. |
