How to Configure Pulse BASIC Templates on VPOS Media

Configure pulse-based machine control for your VPOS Media 4 or VPOS Media 4 Mini device in Nayax Core by applying the BASIC template that matches your machine's pricing: Single Price or Multi Price.

Prerequisites

Before You Start

  • Your machine is a VPOS Media 4 or VPOS Media 4 Mini. Both devices support Pulse BASIC templates.
  • You have Operations > Machines access in Nayax Core.
  • You know whether your machine needs Single Price (one fixed cost) or Multi Price Pre-Selection (multiple price tiers). See Part 1 to decide.

What is Pulse-based machine control?
The Pulse protocol uses brief electrical signals defined by duration and frequency to trigger vending actions. It is one of the simplest and most widely supported machine communication methods, suited to a broad range of unattended retail environments.

What is a BASIC template?
A BASIC template gives you a pre-configured starting point instead of building your configuration from scratch. Entering the template tag auto-populates the essential fields in the Default Configuration tab with the recommended structure for your chosen mode. You then set the value for each parameter and add any additional attributes your machine requires.

Choose & Apply a Template

    In Nayax Core, go to Operations > Machines and locate your VPOS Media machine.

  2.  

    Open the General tab and decide which pulse mode matches your machine, then enter its template tag. See the two options below.

    Fixed Cost Single Price Basic +

    For amusement or time-based machines with one service at one fixed price - photo booths, kiddie rides, and standard vending. No customer price selection required.

BASIC = minimum required fields. These templates contain only the essential configuration. You must add any additional attributes your machine requires. Default Credit must always be set - it pre-authorizes payment to cover purchases and prevents non-payment.

Device-specific value not reflected in the table above: Best Practices (below) gives a different Transaction Start Method for VPOS Media 4 Mini than the table shows. Confirm whether the table's values are VPOS Media 4-specific before publishing, since this article covers both devices.

    Set the value for each attribute in the Default Configuration tab using the table above, then select the checkbox next to each attribute you changed.

    What you should see: your configuration values are saved to the machine record, but not yet pushed to the device.

    Click Actions > Update Queue to push the changes to your device.

Recommendations

Best Practices

DO

Keep Pulse Inhibit = 00 (Disabled). This avoids accidental machine blocking. Leave at 00 unless hardware inhibit is wired.

DO

Keep Post Delay = 15 sec for Single Price. This prevents the next customer from triggering an additional transaction vend.

DO

Set Pulse IN Counter 1-6 = 0;0;0;0;0;0 (Disabled). Enable only if required for cash reporting - to enable, add the value at which pulse you want the cash report, for example 1;0;0;0;0;0.

DO

Use the correct Transaction Start Method for your device and mode:

VPOS Media 4: Use Mag+Contactless+Contact for Single Price, and Product selection for Multi Price.
VPOS Media 4 Mini: Use Contactless+Contact for Single Price, and Product selection for Multi Price.
DON'T

Do not use VPN mode. VPOS Media supports MQTT connectivity only.

DON'T

Do not use "Accept All" as the transaction start method.

Troubleshooting

My changes aren't reflected on the device +
Confirm you selected the checkbox next to each attribute you changed, then clicked Actions > Update Queue. Configuration values are not pushed to the device until the queue update is sent.
The device isn't communicating after I applied a template +
Check that Communication Mode is set to MQTT Enabled. VPOS Media supports MQTT connectivity only - VPN mode is not supported and will prevent the device from communicating correctly.
Transactions aren't completing as expected +
Verify Default Credit is set higher than your most expensive product and that its checkbox is selected to enable it. An unset or too-low Default Credit can prevent purchases from completing.
Multi Price selection isn't displaying on the device screen +
Confirm Pulse Options = 03 - Use Price Array for Outgoing Pulses is set, and that Pulse Increment and Pulse Increment Prices are configured. Also verify Transaction Start Method is set to Product for Multi Price mode.

FAQ

What's the difference between Single Price and Multi Price modes? +
Single Price is for machines providing one service at one fixed cost - the customer taps their card and the transaction completes immediately. Multi Price Pre-Selection lets the customer choose from multiple price tiers before paying, with each tier mapped to a different number of pulses.
How do I apply the Pulse template to my machine? +
In Nayax Core, go to the General tab of your machine profile and enter the exact template tag in the Model Name field - either VPOSM Pulse Single Price Basic or VPOSM Pulse Multi Price Basic. The template auto-populates the essential fields in the Default Configuration tab. You then set the value for each parameter.
Why does Multi Price have MDB Flags set but Single Price doesn't? +
Multi Price mode uses 02 Pre-Selection Enabled because the customer selects a product before paying - the device needs to know which price tier has been chosen at the MDB level. Single Price requires no pre-selection, so MDB Flags are not set.
Can I use these templates on both VPOS Media 4 and VPOS Media 4 Mini? +
Yes. Both Pulse BASIC templates are available on VPOS Media 4 and VPOS Media 4 Mini. Note that the recommended Transaction Start Method differs between the two devices - see the Best Practices section for the correct value for each.
What does Post Delay do, and why is it different between templates? +
Post Delay controls how long the device waits before accepting the next transaction. For Single Price (15;0;0;0;0;0), this prevents the next customer from triggering an additional vend accidentally. For Multi Price (0;0;0;0;0;0), no delay is needed since the customer makes an active selection before paying.
