Before You Start

  • Your DOT QR Reader is physically installed and the RS232 attribute is already configured in Nayax Core. See DOT QR Reader: Installation and Configuration.
  • You have machine management permissions in Nayax Core.
  • Your DOT device is running firmware version 4.0.0.21 or later.
ℹ️
About these settings: The External Reader Configuration attributes control how your DOT QR Reader behaves during scanning. You can adjust them at any time without reinstalling the reader - no downtime required.
If the attributes aren’t visible, apply them in Nayax Core by following the guide How to Add Attributes to a Machine | Operations

What you should see: Your selected attribute values are saved against the machine. Changes take effect on the next scan.

DOT Illumination

Controls the LED lighting behaviour of the DOT QR Reader.

DOT Illumination dropdown in Nayax Core showing options: Off, Normal, Always On, On When Enabled
Option What it does
Off The LED stays off at all times. Not recommended.
Normal The LED turns on when the reader detects something nearby, such as a QR code being presented.
Always On The LED stays on at all times while the device is connected to power.
On When Enabled The LED turns on when a payment is being accepted. It turns off when the device is not in payment mode.

DOT Scanning Preference

Sets the scanning mode to match how QR codes or barcodes are presented to the reader.

DOT Scanning Preference dropdown in Nayax Core showing options: Normal Mode, Screen Mode, Barcode Pay Mode
Option When to use it
Normal Mode Reading barcodes printed on paper.
Screen Mode Reading barcodes displayed on a screen.
Barcode Pay Mode Reading barcodes for payment transactions (such as Alipay or WeChat Pay). Use this for QR codes with a logo in the center.

DOT Sensitivity Level

Controls how strictly or loosely the reader interprets QR codes during scanning.

DOT Sensitivity Level dropdown in Nayax Core showing options: Low, Medium, High, Enhanced
Option What it does
Low Stricter scanning. Reduces false reads but may require clearer code quality.
Medium Balanced sensitivity. Recommended
High More lenient scanning.
Enhanced Easiest scanning - works in poor lighting or with low-quality codes, but has a higher chance of read errors. Use with caution
⚠️
Note: The Enhanced option increases the risk of read errors. Use Medium unless you have a specific reason to change it, such as consistently poor lighting conditions or low-quality QR codes at your location.
