QR Payments Terminology
Understand the key terms used in QR code-based payments on Nayax devices, including the difference between Static and Dynamic QR codes and how each works in a vending transaction.
Overview
QR code payments let consumers pay at a Nayax-enabled machine using a payment app on their smartphone. Nayax supports two types of QR codes: Static and Dynamic, which differ in where the QR is placed, what information it contains, and when the consumer scans it during the vend cycle.
Static QR Code
A Static QR code is a fixed QR code placed directly on the machine, typically as a printed sticker. The code does not change between transactions.
What it contains: Only the machine ID. No product or price information is encoded.
How it works
- The consumer scans the Static QR code on the machine using their payment app.
- The machine is activated remotely via the Nayax platform.
- The consumer selects a product on the machine.
- The payment app approves the transaction.
- The product is dispensed.
Dynamic QR Code
A Dynamic QR code is generated by the Nayax unit in real time and displayed on the unit's screen. A new QR code is created for each transaction.
What it contains: The machine ID and information about the selected product, including price. The code is unique to each purchase.
How it works
- The consumer selects a product on the machine.
- The Nayax unit generates a QR code on the unit's display.
- The consumer scans the QR code using their payment app.
- The payment app approves the transaction.
- The product is dispensed to the consumer.
